Sometimes I can’t help but wonder about what could have been. Aren’t we all guilty of daydreaming about the “what if’s?” It’s intoxicating. When you start to drift off wondering what could have happened if something had gone differently, you start to dig yourself a hole. The curiosity can become an obsession. You can wonder so much about how things could have been, that you may not even notice what’s right in front of you.

You take things for granted when you start wondering about everything else. Sure, if I had done Plan A, you tell yourself; my life would have gone down this way. But hey, didn’t Plan B turn out to be even better? And if you aren’t there yet, I can bet it will be. After all, there had to be a reason you didn’t make that choice initially, so why are you beating yourself up right now? Things will always turn out the way they need to be, even if the grand scheme of things doesn’t look picture-perfect right now.

So stop obsessing over what could have been and realize that you have something worthwhile right in front of you. There’s no point in reliving imagined scenarios, so stop wasting your time. Just keep making the choices that feel right IN THE MOMENT, and realize that the grass is NOT always greener on the other side.
